Förderung von Kulturvermittlungsprojekten Title; The Other Museum Artist: Arthur Clay Duration: 5 Workshops of 2/3 Days over a period of 1 Year with resulting exhibitions Project Blog: ENG/DEU https://othermuseum.blogspot.com/ Concept Through a series of well-conceived hands-on workshops that are result orientated, participants can join together as a team to plan and create an invisible layer of artworks in select museum spaces, which can only be seen through the use of a smart device such as an phone or tablet. Each of the works for the museum spaces are created in the actual workshops by all of the participants using new technologies such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Mixed Reality. There are several approaches to creating works using these technologies: • Image recognition used to augment the content of existing artworks • Geo-Tagged media used to create media sculptures that expand museum spaces The approach brings participants closer to the works on exhibit and at the same time engages then in the creative act of making artworks that explore all possible cycles of an artwork. Participants explore the use of new technologies, learn to work in a team setting, and get introduce to the work of the creative class. Spaces The actual spaces in which the project will take place have not yet been designated. This is in part due to fact that the workshop are not only place specific but reference the artworks that are presented during the actual dates in which the workshop projects are to take place. Possible spaces: Tinguely Museum Spielzeug Museum Riehen Museum der Kulturen Basel Historisches Museum Basel Cartoonmuseum Basel Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel Verkehrsdrehscheibe Schweiz und unser Weg zum Meer Participants The workshop are not gender specific and are intergenerational. Through the common interest amongst youth in what can be done with mobile phones, the workshops are able to attract across diverse cultures and offer a high level of integration due to the reliance of team work. Needs All materials are provided for the workshops. Participants are required to have a smart phone capable of accessing the network. Although not a requirement, the use of of several laptops can expand the range of the workshops to included 2D graphics and 3D modelling.   Examples Projects. “We AR Butterflies Workshop & Exhibition” Seoul Science Museum, South Korea / 2017 For the Seoul Science Museum, a project was developed to create textures using prepared selfies that would be suitable for butterfly wing partners. Participants decorated their faces using stick-its in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. Once they finished placing them, Selfies were made and then made into textures by using a photo editing software. The textures were then applied to AR butterflies and placed in the museum at points chosen by the participants. Using their mobile phones they can find themselves as butterflies flocking through the museums.   Super Sizing Signer Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover / 2018 For the Kestner Gesellschaft, we developed two workshop projects that resulted in exhibitions of invisible art that referenced the existing exhibit. One project was created for the Roman Signer exhibition and went under the title Super Sizing Signer. After coming to an understanding of how some of the work was created by Signer, participants were given the task to create works using the same processes. Three works were created: Infinite landscapes, which was work created for Signer’s Runder Raum; Space Art, which was a work featuring AR Satellites that floated in space and used Signer’s “Milchstrasse” as a common background, providing the effect that the satellites were really floating in outer space; Super Sizing Signer was the last piece created and it featured 3D scanning. Here, participants interacted with the works in performative way by striking poses to them. These were then scanned, recalled, and then placed in open space for all to enjoy. “Money Can Buy You Love” HEK Basel / Rathaus Basel / 2014 The a workshop in HEK, stop motion film was tough to participants of all age, who were then able to create a short film to the theme of “Money Can Buy You Love”. The project celebrated on the one hand the 500 year anniversary of Basel’s history of money exchange and minting, and on the other it also celebrated the advent of new types of currency such as the bitcoin. The films became part of an AR installation in the Rathaus Basel, which featured falling virtual coins. When the coins were touched the films were played back. The films show not things purchased but give through “spending” time and attention, and not monetary transaction.   BUDGET Fees Basis: 2 Day Workshop, 6 Hours per day 1 Day Presentation, 4 hours. • Fee for artwork and workshop concept: 1500.00 • Fee Workshop Leaders (2) 1300.00 • Materials Workshop 150.00 • Electronic Equipment Rental (iPads etc) 300.00 • Travel Costs 300.00 • Hotel Costs 300.00 • Spesen 200.00 Total per Workshop: 3900.00 Total for 5 Workshop Cycle: 19’500.00 Action Plan 1 Week Choice of museums partners & Partnership Agreements 3 weeks Concept creating for workshop and resulting artwork 2 weeks Preparation for workshop and resulting artwork 1 week Presentation of final concept to partners 1 Week Workshop & Resulting Exhibition Total: 8 weeks per Workshop Total: 10 Months of work for 5 events Team: Arthur Clay Alessandro Frigerio (Assistant) Biography Arthur Clay.
